For the edtech industry, the pandemic poses somewhat of a paradox. Never before have schools and colleges so urgently needed digital tools and services to facilitate remote learning—and been less able to afford them.
2020 had been a been a stellar year for edtech, seeing over $2.2 billion raised in venture and private capital within the US alone. However, with the effects of COVID-19 now settling into place, from budget cuts to signficiant learning losses, the day-to-day reality of customer retention and sales may be an increasingly difficult challenge to overcome.
Soon, schools and universities will be inundated with sales pitches from edtech companies, and it won’t take long before they start pushing back against those that seem predatory.
