About the Project
This project is one of the 2015 WISE Awards winners.
NewGlobe supports visionary governments to transform public education systems, the cornerstone of a prosperous, equitable, and peaceful society. It was set up with the primary goal of helping solve the global learning crisis in partnership with governments, communities, teachers, and parents. The programs it supports deliver high-quality education for all students. It aims to assist in reaching UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 – to ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning.
NewGlobe is data-driven and technology-enabled and has re-engineered every part of its learning methodology, from teacher training and support, to lesson delivery, construction, and financial administration to make its approach as effective and affordable as possible. All NewGlobe education follows government curriculums
Context and Issue
The World Bank estimates that 70% of ten-year-olds in Low and Middle Income Countries cannot read a simple text with understanding. In sub-Saharan Africa it estimates the figure rises to 90%. This is despite the vast majority of children – UNESCO estimates 90% globally in the case of primary-age children – attending school.
Not surprisingly, many of the children who manage to complete primary school can’t read at the second grade level, it is estimated that there are 330 million children in school and not learning.
Solution and Impact
NewGlobe develops solutions that support teachers and improve student learning, implementing groundbreaking pedagogical techniques to enhance learning outcomes in schools.
NewGlobe is working as the technical partner of governments across Africa and Asia to transform education outcomes. For example, NewGlobe supports the EdoBEST program in Edo State, Nigeria which has trained more than 15,000 teachers and supports more than 300,000 students in schools every day.
NewGlobe’s approach has been verified by independent research.
A study led by Nobel Laureate Professor Michael Kremer confirmed “some of the largest learning gains ever measured in international education” in Kenya schools utilizing NewGlobe’s methodology.
The same methods underpin all the programs supported by NewGlobe.
