Dear Friends,
In light of recent global developments surrounding COVID19, and after consulting our partners, we have taken the regrettable decision to postpone WISE@ Bogota and Medellin that was scheduled to take place on 18-22 May. I am sure you share our disappointment but I hope that you understand why we concluded that on balance it is probably best for all concerned to reschedule the event for a later date. Together with our partners we are exploring potential dates from late September to early December of 2020 and we will be reaching out to you in the next several weeks to check on your availability.
In times of uncertainty like the one we are currently experiencing, I have found it useful to apply a few simple education principles in trying to understand what is happening and how best to respond both professionally and personally. The first principle is to listen carefully to those with particular expertise and experience in the particular field, for example in this case, the World Health Organisation. The second principle is to internalize what I have learned and adjust my behavior accordingly without either over- or under- reacting. The third and final principle is to regularly reflect on the situation by reapplying principles one and two. If you would like mnemonics my recommended approach is to listen, learn, and reflect.
