Yara Darwish

Yara is a Qatari Journalism junior at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Qatar. She is highly involved in the Northwestern community and bases her university work on social issues in Qatar. The journalism program has provided her with the insight to look at the world differently, and this is what has motivated her enthusiasm for the field of education. Yara is greatly interested in the relationship between economic development and education and believes it is important to bridge the gap between the educational values of different generations.

Yara is also interested in the culture of language and the effects of globalization on the Arabic language. She hopes her participation in the Learners’ Voice program will provide her with a better understanding of the issues regarding education in this region. Yara plans to continue her studies with a postgraduate degree in International Education Policy.
