Sohini Bhattacharya is an intrepid intrapreneur and social change enthusiast who has over 25 years of experience in the social sector. As President and CEO at Breakthrough, Sohini is responsible for establishing a strong resource base, contributing to institution building and strategic thinking for organisation’s sustainability. She also helps develop Breakthrough’s effective, efficient, and resource-smart programme strategy. Prior to this, Sohini has co-founded a gender resource centre; worked directly with grassroots communities on livelihoods projects and built market-artisan interfaces for a national NGO. Before joining Breakthrough, Sohini spent 10 years at Ashoka Innovators for the Public, an international organisation building an ecosystem for social entrepreneurs, first ramping up the India program and then working on institution building for Ashoka in South Asia. Sohini also worked as the India Strategy consultant at the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) for its crucial first three years of launch. Sohini is a founding trustee of Read India, and a board member of Dastkar, a society for indigenous crafts and craftspeople. She also serves on the board of Kolkata Sanved, which uses dance movement therapy to recover from trauma and violence and Aakar Social Ventures, an organisation working on menstrual hygiene in India and Africa.
