Founder & Executive Director
Omowumi Ogunrotimi is a feminist lawyer and education systems innovator dedicated to transforming how learning environments address equity, safety, and accountability. She is the Founder and Executive Director of Gender Mobile Initiative (GMI), a leading organization advancing systemic solutions to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in education.
With over a decade of experience in gender and development, Omowumi has built a model that integrates high-impact policy, technology, preventative education, and social norms change to reshape institutional culture. She led the development of the first feature-rich mobile application designed specifically for campus communities in Nigeria, integrating both prevention and response functions to combat sexual harassment.
Under her leadership, GMI has facilitated the localization of sexual harassment prohibition policies by 37 subnational governments and catalyzed reforms across over 260 higher education institutions. She also played a pivotal role in securing the passage of the Sexual Harassment Prohibition Bill by Nigeria’s Federal House of Representatives.
Omowumi is the 2025 Global Citizen Prize Winner, an Ashoka Fellow, and a recipient of multiple international awards, including the Commonwealth Award, World Justice Forum Honoree, and recognition as a UNFPA Digital Safety Champion. She was also named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons in Nigeria by JCI. Under her leadership, GMI has earned local, regional, and international recognition.
