Karla Cruz Godoy

Karla Cruz Godoy is an educator, activist, and strong advocate of Big Picture’s mission and values. Karla’s love for Big Picture Learning originated from her own experience as an alumnus of the San Diego Met, Class of 2012. As a Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar, Karla earned a B.A. from UC Berkeley in Gender and Women’s Studies and Education and was inspired to tackle educational inequality by directly working in the classroom as a secondary ELA teacher. In 2016, Karla joined Urban Teachers, a teacher residency program, in Washington D.C. where she taught at the high school level while simultaneously earning a Masters of Science in Education (M.S. Ed) from Johns Hopkins University.

Currently, Karla serves as the Special Assistant to the Co-Executive Director at Big Picture Learning, where she provides strategic and programmatic support for a variety of projects including, but not limited to the Deep Learning Equity Fellowship, Ashe Leaders Fellowship, development/fundraising, and BPL’s annual international conferences. As of late 2020, Karla co-founded and is co-chair of the Big Picture Learning Alumni Association, a professional, social, and educational platform connecting BPL alumni nationally and internationally for professional and social support. Outside of working with Big Picture, Karla spends her time playing painting,, traveling, and playing fetch with her dog, Lucy.
