Jawad Ashgar

Ahmad Jawad Asghar is an education systems expert with over a decade of experience in improving public education service delivery and strengthening teacher support in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. He leads the Global Education team’s EdTech and AI strategy at the Gates Foundation, managing a $30M+ innovation portfolio focused on building scalable digital public infrastructure, developing AI-powered instructional tools, and creating foundational datasets that enhance governments’ ability to support teachers and deliver learning.

He has worked with ministries in over 15 countries to design national teacher credentialing systems, student assessment platforms, and integrated data architectures that enable evidence-based planning and real-time school support. Jawad also advises on results-based financing and public-private partnerships to scale effective education solutions.

Through his leadership in developing tech-enabled tools—such as classroom monitoring systems, multilingual voice datasets, and teacher coaching platforms—he has ensured that technology is meaningfully embedded into frontline education delivery. He holds degrees in computer engineering and mathematics.
