George Kronnisanyon Werner

George Kronnisanyon Werner is a seasoned public sector leader with over 15 years of experience in education reform, civil service modernization, and strategic governance across Africa. His leadership spans national and international roles, including engagements with the UN, WHO, World Bank, and the African Union.

He currently serves as Officer in Charge (Executive Director) at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development, where he is leading a strategic repositioning process and overseeing a $30 million capital campaign to establish the African Women’s House. He also manages institutional operations, staff, and coordination with the U.S.-based EJS Foundation.

Previously, George served as Senior Government Systems Advisor at FHI 360, supporting the Liberia Education Systems Strengthening Activity (ESSA) in partnership with the Ministry of Education and global donors. At the Digital Skills Foundation, he helped secure $2 million in funding to expand digital literacy in Rwanda. He has also advised the WHO’s Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, contributing to the creation of the Pandemic Fund.

As Liberia’s Minister of Education and former Director-General of the Civil Service Agency, George spearheaded reforms that saved millions and improved service delivery. He holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Education and Religious Studies from the Pontifical Urbaniana University.

George continues to champion education and governance reforms that drive sustainable development across Africa.
