Francesco Volpicella

Francesco Volpicella was born in 1977 and has been engaged in international humanitarian work for over 10 years. Before being involved in the Syria crisis response more than 4 years ago, he was deployed to short and long-term missions in complex emergency contexts such as Afghanistan, Lebanon, Palestine, Kenya/Somalia, Yemen, South Sudan while also operational in non-emergency settings like Sierra Leone, Uganda and Guatemala.

Mr. Volpicella is  currently NRC Regional Programme Director/Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East and has previously filled various positions -from Field Coordinator to Country Director and Regional Representative-  with different INGOs such as Terre des Hommes, Handicap International, Solidarites and Medecins du Monde handling multi-donor and sector portfolios. Beyond the humanitarian work, Mr. Volpicella has worked in the private sector as database administrator and financial administrator as well as manager of social programmes addressed to undocumented migrants in Europe.

Between 2001 and 2008 Mr. Volpicella produced various publications mainly related to Palestine and Lebanon while he has recently submitted a conference dossier regarding Syrian refugees legal status and Jordanian labour law to the University of Cambridge. Francesco holds a Master degree in Political Science/International Relations from the University of Rome 3.

He speaks Italian, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan while has a working knowledge of Arabic.
