Taskeen is the Co-Director of Open Development & Education and the Senior Research Lead at EdTech Hub. She has over ten years of international education research and development experience. Her thematic areas of expertise include EdTech in low-resource contexts, justice-oriented inclusive education models, digital neocolonialism, open educational practices, critical digital pedagogies, education data management, data for decision-making, EdTech testbeds, implementation research, tech-supported teacher professional development (TPD), structured pedagogy, personalized adaptive learning, and artificial intelligence in education systems.
Her skill set spans strategic leadership, partnership building, large-scale primary research, research development, project management, grant management, implementation research, human-centred design, technical assistance, and business development.
Taskeen is the Research Lead on a number of projects, including Tech-Supported TPD in Tanzania; GIS-Supported Teacher Allocation in Sierra Leone; Unlocking Data: Scaling Up Uses and Users of Data in Education Systems; Building Climate-Resilient Education Systems; and The Influence of Private Sector AI on Public Education.
Taskeen completed her Ph.D. on Addressing Injustices through MOOCs at the University of Cambridge. Her research highlights that historical injustices, cultural imposition, and economic dependence continue to play a pivotal role in education. Taskeen is pioneering a new strand of research on Decolonising EdTech, which focuses on equitable, inclusive design and implementation approaches to EdTech interventions against the backdrop of global geopolitical inequalities.
