Dr. Mazen Omar Hasna

Professor Mazen O. Hasna is the Founding Chair of the National Committee for Qualifications and Academic Accreditation at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities (2003). With over twenty-five years of academic experience, he has demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and educational leadership.
At Qatar University, Prof. Hasna held several key positions, including Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Dean of the College of Engineering, and Vice President/Chief Academic Officer. Throughout his tenure, he contributed to establishing the Qatar Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and co-founded the Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC), which advanced wireless communication research at the Qatar Science & Technology Park. Additionally, he led a project to build a low-cost wireless communication network in the Comoros Islands, helping connect the three islands and provide internet access to remote areas in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prof. Hasna serves on senior committees such as the Education Excellence Award Board of Trustees and the Energy and Industry Qatarization Awards Advisory Committee. He also represents Qatar on the Arabian Gulf University Board of Trustees.
As a prolific researcher, Prof. Hasna has published over 290 papers, with more than 10,500 citations. He was the first researcher from Qatar to be included in Thomson Reuters’ Highly Cited Researchers list (2015). He also has a strong interest in engineering education and has co-authored and co-edited two books in this field.
