Head of Education Expansion
Daniel Omaya is a seasoned educator and education specialist with over 15 years of experience focused on improving learning outcomes for underserved communities across East Africa. He is deeply committed to ensuring that every child and young person has access to quality education, regardless of their background. Daniel began his career as a secondary school teacher and later lectured at the university level in Uganda before joining PEAS (Promoting Equality in African Schools).

Over a decade at PEAS, he held progressively senior roles, culminating as Head of School Network, where he led efforts to strengthen school quality across 30 low-cost secondary schools serving over 16,000 students in rural and hard-to-reach areas. He currently serves as Head of Education Expansion at SHOFCO (Shining Hope for Communities) in Kenya, leading the expansion of SHOFCO’s partnerships to 55 government primary schools serving marginalized children living in urban informal settlements. These interventions aim to improve learning outcomes for over 60,000 students across four counties. Daniel also oversees SHOFCO’S secondary scholarship programs supporting more than 11,250 vulnerable adolescent girls and teen mothers at high risk of dropping out.

Known for his strong relationship-building skills, Daniel works closely with Kenya’s Ministry of Education and philanthropic partners, representing SHOFCO in both national and international forums. Throughout his career, he has supported school leaders and teachers in low-resource settings with the skills, tools, and resources needed to improve teaching and learning, while contributing thought leadership on the opportunities and challenges of improving learning outcomes for all children in sub-Saharan Africa.
