Dr. Changhua Rich

Changhua Rich, Ph.D., is CTB’s Research Director, Asia. Dr. Rich is responsible for developing international assessment research and business collaboration. By working closely with educators, school administrators, and industry-leading testing experts, she develops solutions for diverse groups of learners and institutions from China and the Middle East.

Dr. Rich also serves as a Senior Advisor for online speech processing and AI evaluation of English writing projects in China. In this role, she guides the development of a next-generation assessment of English-language proficiency for China and other Asian countries.

During her career at CTB, Dr. Rich has worked as a Research Scientist on several projects, including the InView Test of Cognitive Skills, the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), and large-scale assessments for the US state of West Virginia, and currently the McGraw-Hill EOS (English Online System) and testing programs for the state of Qatar.

Before joining CTB in 1999, Dr. Rich served as an Assistant Professor of Economics at St. Lawrence University, and as a lecturer at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Before coming to the United States, she worked as a teacher at a village school in rural China.

She has presented original work to international audiences as varied as the American Education Research Association, the US Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), the Chinese International Conference on English-language Testing, the Malaysian International Forum on National Educational Assessment, the e-Learning conference in Dubai, and the Qatar Education Conference in London.
