Austin X. Volz is an educator and researcher with an international background in higher education, experiential education, and program design.
Austin’s international experience includes a Fulbright in Germany and U.S. State Department fellowships in China. As a Visiting Scholar at Fudan University he researched Chinese models of, and motivations for, liberal arts education. While in China Austin has spoken on higher education at the Harvard Shanghai Center, Beijing Institute of Science and Technology, and Shanghai American Cultural Center. His writings have appeared in the Chinese Journal of International Education (forthcoming), Fudan General Education, and Democracy and Education: Collected Perspectives. As a Program Director at Avenues Beijing he works on learning science research, global programs, and curriculum design. Going forward he intends to explore how different perceptions of value are shaping the bridges into and out of college.
Austin holds a master’s in International Education Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a bachelor’s in liberal arts from St. John’s College (NM). He can be reached at axv926@mail.harvard.edu.
