Alejandro Caballero

With nearly 25 years of relevant experience, Alejandro Caballero is a Principal Education Specialist at IFC, based in Washington, D.C. His investment and operational experience in education spans Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, Latin America, and Sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on technology in education, online education, employability, and business-to-business and business-to-government models.

Alejandro has been instrumental in developing IFC’s value-added services in higher education — Vitae (Employability) and D4TEP (Digital Transformation) — having led 20 digital transformation engagements with higher education institutions worldwide. He has also played a critical role in developing IFC’s EdTech practice, leading or contributing to several of IFC’s most significant investments to date, including Coursera, and in preparing IFC’s EdTech strategy.

Before joining the World Bank Group in 2006, Alejandro was a Vice President at Deutsche Bank, where he worked in Singapore, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. He also held positions with management consulting firms Oliver Wyman and Booz Allen Hamilton, and in investment banking with the M&A Advisory team at Goldman Sachs in London. In addition, he served as an advisor to the CEO of ActionAid.

Alejandro holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a master’s degree in education from the Stanford Graduate School of Education, where he was a La Caixa Fellow (Fulbright equivalent).
