Dr. Abdul Waheed Khan

Dr. Abdul Waheed Khan is President of Talal Abu Ghazaleh University of Business, Bahrain, and Senior Adviser in Education and Training to TAGORG. He was born in India and holds a PhD in Mass Communication from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA.
He has extensive international experience in designing, planning and managing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) applications for education, the sciences, culture, agriculture and rural development.
Dr Khan worked as Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) from 2001 to 2010. He led UNESCO’s programme on “Building Inclusive Knowledge Societies” aimed at improving access to quality education, making the acquisition of scientific knowledge easier, promoting cultural and linguistic diversity and encouraging digital opportunities for inclusion through public-private partnerships.
As coordinator for UNESCO’s contribution to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva (2003) and Tunis (2005), he represented UNESCO at major international events in the field of information and communication.
Prior to joining UNESCO Dr Khan worked as: Vice-Chancellor of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (India); Chairman of the Digital Opportunity Trust (Canada); Chairman of Development Communication (India); Member of the International Advisory Committee of the University of Wisconsin (USA) and Member of the International Advisory Board of Wawasan Open University (Malaysia).
In 2010, he was conferred with the degree of Doctor of Letter (Honoris Causa), Wawasan Open University, Malaysia. He received several awards and is author of a number of books and articles in academic journals.
