Niwa graduated in International Relations at Universitas Indonesia and has been a student activist since 2007 when he became President of the Student Council. In 2009, he co-founded a youth NGO called Indonesian Future Leaders (IFL), which encourages young Indonesians to engage in social activism and voluntary activities which foster leadership skills and grassroots understanding. With IFL, Niwa successfully led a variety of youth projects such as School of Volunteers, Students for Tomorrow, Indonesia Young Parliament, and I speak for MDGs.
Niwa was named a Microsoft Innovative Student in 2010, a UNESCO-Indonesia Young Envoy in 2011, and recently received the Indonesia MDGs Award 2012 (category: Youth Community) from the Vice President of Indonesia.
As a student activist who is involved in projects which have provided him with leadership opportunities, Niwa aspires to become a world-class leader with grassroots understanding.
He is interested in social entrepreneurship, education and the concept of intellectual social responsibility.
As a WISE Learner, Niwa took part in the India Youth Forum in New Delhi, from March 29 to April 1, 2012.
