United States of America

Al’Amin Cissi is a strong team player with extensive experience working in groups to advocate for education and social justice.  As a poet, public speaker and mentor, he utilizes his reflective nature and skills in digital and traditional communication to engage communities, and to improve opportunities for youth.

Al’Amin is a well-spoken individual with the ability to connect with people from all walks of life.  His experience working with Rights of Passage programs has fostered a passion for working with children to explore and define their own cultural identity.  In this role, he assisted in the development of a program in which predominantly African-American young boys, aged 7 to 11, would explore how society defines manhood through watching historical documentaries and reading historical texts.  These exercises helped the young boys begin to explore how they identify themselves, and it established a sense of unity between them as a result of their collaborative efforts.

Al’Amin is currently a senior at Wheelock College where he will graduate in May 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and American Studies.  Upon completion of his degree, he hopes to pursue a career in education as a high school history teacher, and eventually continue his education and become a history professor at a higher education institution.
