Ho Kin Philip Chan

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Australia, Philip is a children’s rights advocate who holds the firm belief that education restores much-needed equality in an unequal world.

He is a final-year student at the University of Sydney, studying for a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Arts (Media & Communications), with a major in Government and International Relations. Named as one of the nation’s best and brightest students, he has been awarded the prestigious 2014 Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Scholarship.

With a long-standing interest in human rights law and international development, Philip has served as UNICEF Australia’s Young Ambassador, Vice-President of the Committee of Australasian Law Students, youth advocate for Anti-Slavery Australia and the Young and Well research center. Recently, he advised the Children’s Rights in the Digital Age project which proposed historic updates for the Convention on the Rights of the Child to the United Nations.

Philip’s passion for education stems from his teaching experiences in a remote village in Indonesia and France. At Sydney University, he is a Senior Student Ambassador and a founding mentor of the Social Inclusion Roadtrip, which inspires students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue education. His decade-long social justice efforts have been recognized with the Order of Australia Student Citizenship Medallion and the Australian Government’s National Volunteer Award.

Philip is fascinated by the limitless potential of combining social movements with technology, and is excited to use his skills to create innovative education campaigns during the WISE Learners’ Voice program.
