Alia Al-Khatar-Williams

Ms Al-Khatar-Williams A lawyer by background, Ms Al-Khatar-Williams has served with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) for over 20 years, in leadership positions including complex protection operations management, strategic planning and external engagement as well as legal advice and policy development, in both the field and the Geneva Headquarters. She has been posted to Afghanistan, Algeria, Indonesia, Jordan, Yemen, and the United Kingdom, and worked as Senior Political Affairs and Refugee Adviser in the Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General in New York. Prior to her current role, she headed the Operations Coordination Pillar at UNHCR’s Regional Bureau for MENA in Amman and acted as Deputy Country Representative in Jordan. Alia holds an LL.M in Public International Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and is fluent in English, Arabic and German.
