Zainab Hussaini is one of the most influential women to have helped Skateistan grow from its early beginnings into an award-winning INGO. Zainab has been working with Skateistan in Mazar-e-Sharif for over 7 years. In 2020 Zainab was promoted to the role of Country Manager, overseeing all operations in the three Afghan locations (Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif and Bamyan). Zainab is a pioneer and passionate ambassador for women’s sports and education in Afghanistan. In 2015 she became the first Afghan woman in history to complete a marathon within her own country, taking incredible risks to break taboos and change social norms around girls’ and women’s participation in sport throughout Afghanistan. In 2016 Zainab won the Franco-German Award for Afghan Woman of the Year. Zainab is an outstanding role model to Skateistan’s students, staff members and to women worldwide.
