Building the Future of Education:
Conversations with Resilient Innovators
28 October 2020
The COVID-19 crisis has become a reality around the globe for the foreseeable future. As the academic year has started around the world, parents, educators, and policymakers are grappling to anticipate and adapt to the ‘new normal’ in education. The education sector had to make a shift from short term reactive approaches to proactive solutions that reach as many learners as possible in light of all the changes that affect an already struggling sector.
As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, serious questions have been raised about the resilience of our current education systems. As the education sector transitions into their new redefined efforts to educate, it is more important than ever to listen to and learn from innovators who have created cutting edge solutions to education problems around the world. It is more important than ever to bring attention to the solutions they have fostered in their localized education contexts.
The theme of the event, ‘Building the Future of Education’ reflects on the idea of thinking about education innovation proactively and not reactively. The discussions highlighted the efforts undertaken by educational innovators to ensure they provide access to quality education from birth until adult learning and everything in between.

This session will bring together two innovators from the WISE community across generations working towards innovating higher education and the future of work. While the move towards remote online or blended learning has meant the continuation of some basic courses, there remains a standstill in terms of values and skills education. To dig deeper into the issue, what values and skills are still necessary to learn? How should schools and higher ed institutions prepare ethical, resilient students? This dialogue brings together two innovators to discuss the role of innovation in making a resilient learner.
