The 2016 Skoll Forum theme “Fierce Compassion” has reflected the dedication of the WISE Prize for Education Laureate, Sakena Yacoobi in the field of women’s education.
She worked tirelessly in her native Afghanistan to bring education to vulnerable groups facing the extremes of war, displacement, poverty, and oppression. For two decades, Dr. Yacoobi has worked to empower women to learn, work and become active citizens and members of their communities.
The discussion, moderated by Sebastien Turbot, Curator and Director of Content & Programs at WISE, provided a valuable opportunity for four WISE Prize for Education Laureates — Dr. Yacoobi, Founder and CEO, Afghan Institute of Learning, Ms Vicky Colbert, Founder and Director, Escuela Nueva Foundation, Ms Ann Cotton, Founder and President of Camfed and Dr. Madhav Chavan, President, Pratham Education Foundation– and the audience to exchange views on the benefits for all societies in educating girls and women.
