John Comings is an independent consultant and an adjunct professor at the Center for International Education at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. From April 2012 to October 2013, he was an Education Policy Advisor in USAID. Before that, he was a Principal International Technical Advisor at the Education Development Center from 2008 to 2012. Until July 2008, he was Director of the National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL) and a member of the faculty of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Before coming to Harvard in 1996, Dr. Comings spent 12 years as Vice President of World Education, a nonprofit agency that supports adult education projects in Asia, Africa, and the United States. He holds an Ed.D. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
