Jusen Asuka is Professor of Environmental Policy at the Center for Northeast Asian Studies, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. He also works for the Institute for Global Environmental Strategy (IGES), Hayama, Japan, as Director of the Climate Change Group. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Engineering, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, Tokyo, Japan. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France. He is a Board Member of the Society for Environmental Economics and Policy Studies, Japan, and Chairman of the Association for Chinese Environmental Issues in Japan.
Recently he has mainly worked on climate change and energy issues in Asia and is involved in many policy-making processes in Japan. His recent work focuses on: 1) the future climate regime, 2) international cooperation on environment and energy, 3) Japan’s energy mix after the Fukushima disaster, 4) emission trading, 5) international competitiveness and carbon constraint, 6) co-control of climate change and air pollution, 7) energy and environmental policy in China, etc. He was born in China and raised in Japan. With his multinational background, he has a truly global perspective.
